Wouldn't a ton of these and a ton of Warthogs take out ISIS in 5 days?
The expensive F22s and F35s seem like total overkill for current threats

Warthogs are indeed primo at taking out shit in the sandbox with that GAU-8 and low altitude/ speed ability. However, like all things - it cant last forever (unless its a BUFF) and the USAF has basically lost its mind. We're even using the B-1B for CAS.
Can other aircraft do CAS? Yes. Does the USAF even want to do CAS? From what I've heard: Not really.
The F-22 is meant for air superiority, BVR fights and etc. Not meant for CAS.
However, F-35... supposedly will do everything... including CAS. So we're set.

Can the F35 hold enough ammo for CAS against low-tech militias like ISIS? Or does it mostly use missiles? And are missiles worth the cost against low-tech (and cost) militias?
In any case I hope ISIS is wiped out SOON so we can go back to worrying about actual militaries. It's not that interesting to fight a bunch of assholes who stole money and arms from Syria and Iraq and are using it to terrorize the local populace and the world at large.

The guys who wrote this are Viper pilots. Most of the time their lawn darts are on BINGO fuel, I can't blame them.

Im no expert...
However, from what I've read the F-35 will not hold sufficient gun ammo internally (and only on the F-35A Conventional model). The type of CAS the F-35 would engage in would involve smart bombs/missiles... if it even gets to that point in the future.
Sadly, I dont think ISIS cannot be taken out by (very expensive) air missions alone. That's a complicated one there but I'm fairly certain if we want to get the job done it requires competent ground forces.

I agree. It will probably take ground forces. Jets and Apache helicopters can assist. But boots on the ground will probably be needed, sadly enough
